Cthulhu Dice Review

Cthulhu Dice

Cthulhu Dice is a quick playing dice game from Steve Jackson games that can be played anywhere with enough space to roll a die.  In the game you battle against your fellow cultists in an attempt to be the last one with any sanity remaining. The game consists of a single 12-sided and 18 glass marbles.   Drive them insane, steal their sanity, but try not to lose your marbles at the same time.

Each turn players select which of the other players they are going to attack and roll the die to see what terrible fate awaits them.  The defender then has the chance to roll for a counter-attack and cause their own mind-destroying affects. This continues until one player is the only one remaining with any sanity remaining (making them the unfortunate winner) or all players are insane (Cthuhlu wins).

The die offers a variety of possible outcomes guaranteed to crack even the strongest among us.

The Yellow Sign:  Causes the target (the player being rolled against) to lose one sanity.

Tentacle:  Causes the defender to give one of their sanity to the attacker (this also occurs during the counter-attack)

Elder Sign:  The player rolling the die gains one sanity from the pool in the middle of the table.

Cthulhu:  All players lose one sanity.

Eye:  Allows the player rolling to change the die to any other side.

This game is easily carried in a pocket and can be played in just a few minutes just about anywhere making it a great distraction or filler.

Wynken’s Thoughts:

I liked that the game was easy to learn and was small, we had a lot of fun playing it.  This game is great!

9/10 Tentacles

Blynken’s Thoughts:

I liked that the game played quickly because we got to play it a lot.  I liked that when you went insane you could continue attacking other players but they could not attack you (you were already insane).

 9/10 Tentacles

Nod’s Thoughts:

I liked that if you grew a tentacle you got to steal a sanity from another player.  I had a lot of fun playing this.

10/10 Tentacles
